2008 September | FIFOTO Blog - Part 2

As Ting put it, we are all “drooling” over Canon’s new full frame DSLR. We (the Canon folks at FIFOTO, Ting, David & I) have been waiting for the 5D upgrade for ages. Now that it’s finally been announced, we just can’t wait to get our hands on it!

This new baby boasts a 21MP full frame CMOS sensor (take that, Nikon D3!) and my favorite feature – the expandable ISO to a high of 25600! It’s capability to shoot high definition movies at superb clarity has revolutionized the DLSR era. Check out this video, Reverie, using a pre-production Canon 5D Mark II shot by the famous commercial and editorial photographer, Vincent Laforet.

P.S. We are planning a Canon vs Nikon shootout, once we get ourselves one of these!

Mel & Steven

23.09.2008

I met Mel about two years back from shooting Nike Rockstar events where she danced and showcased hip hop workout moves. I got to know her a little better when I photographed her at her Pilates studio, Pilatique. She was being featured on the Nike Women website. Mel is a well known personality in the dance/fitness arena. Apart from establishing Pilatique, she works closely with Nike and Fitness First on choreographing dance workout routines. Mel travels to Canada on a regular basis for training and certification in Pilates. After her honeymoon, she is off to Toronto for another advance cert!

Mel is a little fire cracker – her passion and effervescent personality shines through everything she does as you will see in the photos to follow!

Steven, I have met only twice. His friendly and warm nature made it very easy for us to photograph! David was covering him all day and he mentioned how Steven had a great sense of humor! All I know is that he has some crazy dance moves!

Their wedding was held at Cyberview Lodge. It started off with a charming garden wedding where they exchanged vows followed by a signing ceremony. Everyone proceeded to the ballroom for the dinner reception. The dinner ended when the lights were turned off. The DJ turned up the music, turned on the disco balls and the party started! Everyone was on the dance floor dancing the night away!

Congratulations, Mel & Steven! We had a lot of fun shooting your wedding!

And here’s my favorite shot of the day!

Special thanks to Emilia & Kit who helped us out with the portrait session under the hot and humid weather! Special thanks to Patrick for taking this group photo at the end of the night!

More photos will be uploaded to our wedding gallery soon!

Andrea

22.09.2008

Two weekends ago, Joan and Loong brought Andrea to the studio for her baby portraits. She is about 9 months old and is a tiny little one! She was in a pretty good mood (I got to carry her a little while before we starting shooting) until Mommy changed her outfit! She started crying really loudly! (Apparently she hates being dressed!) She was pretty good with the camera later on as she got used to the flashes firing. Towards the end, she got quite hyperactive and was crawling everywhere! Andrea likes *BLING* and would go for anything shiny ie my reflector! Boys watch out!

Andrea is their second baby. I photographed Greg, their first born two years ago. Oh how time flies!

Chris & Pearly

22.09.2008

I met Chris & Pearly about 5-6 years back through Bruce & Hsuan. The lovely couple have been going out for 11 years and finally tied the knot last weekend! With Chris’ and Pearly’s great sense of humor combined with their bunch of wild and wacky friends, it was a very entertaining wedding to shoot!

Pearly and I were both surprised to hear police sirens as the groom arrived but we figured they had bought one of those illegal loud speakerphones. We were astonished when we looked out the window to find 2 outriders parked out front! David later mentioned that they had stopped traffic and cleared the highway for Chris and his entourage!

The girls were all well-prepared with pretty hilarious and painful games. The boys had a chance to practice playing daddy – Ernest (we’ll be shooting his and Sook Ping’s wedding next year) was made to dress up like a baby, with mittens and socks and diapers. He was carried about 30 meters to drink from a milk bottle, which Chris ended up downing! Kenny (we shot his wedding earlier this year) & Dex were made to twirl hula hoops which Dex did surprisingly well (he looked like he enjoyed it tremendously!). And of course, the girls did not miss out on the opportunity to inflict some pain on the boys – they got WAXED!!!

After the games, we proceeded to St Francis Xavier (SFX) for the church ceremony.

Congrats to Chris & Pearly!

These next two shots below are my favorites of the day!

At the groom’s side…

I love this car shot by David! (Steve and David have always taken fantastic car shots way better than I have, mostly due to the fact that they stick half their bodies out of the car to shoot it!)

The church and dinner reception were beautifully decorated by Arada Design. The theme for their wedding was creamy roses and dangling green apples…

The dinner reception was held at the Sheraton Subang. Poor David could not shoot for the dinner reception as one of the guests who was reversing his car had rolled over his foot! Good old Steve came to the rescue and covered their reception…
