Sh*t happens. I was appointed photographer by my cousin, Huai to shoot her wedding last Saturday. And the day I decide not to bring along all my backup gear, my flash had to die on me and this was halfway through the tea ceremony! Luckily it was bright enough, I upped my ISO, lowered my f-stop and I managed to shoot without flash and in fact, the photos turned out better! Unfortunately, I was unable to cover the family portrait session without my flash (sometimes I wished the 5D had an on-camera flash!) but thankfully, Mei Ling (Huai’s friend/event organizer/photographer) was able to back me up as she was appointed photographer for the dinner reception too! (Well, I would have had all my backup equipment if it was a Client and none of them would die on me! It’s Murphy’s Law!)
I am on the plane on my way back to KL after a hectic (well, it was shopping-mos burger-manicure/pedicure-wedding, more shopping, more mos burger and finally met with a client before heading to the airport. So yes, hectic!) weekend in Singapore. Huai is my first cousin who I have been in touch but have not met for many years as she has been living in Melbourne pursuing a successful career as an architect and made partner in her late twenties! Michael is also an established architect in Melbourne whom she met in university and they have dated for the past 11 years!
Their wedding was held at the China Club, a Shanghai Tang-themed members-only restaurant. The place was perfect for our short portrait session before the tea ceremony and Huai’s cheongsam matched brilliantly with the location!
It was nice to finally be able to sit down and have a proper dinner as a guest at a wedding (I can’t even remember the last wedding I attended as a guest!) but of course, my photographer instincts did not stop me from shooting (just for fun) all night long!
Congratulations to Huai & Michael who will be off to the Maldives for their honeymoon!
Here’s a preview of Huai and Michael’s wedding!
