Jody & Kelly

16.10.2008

Steve and I arrived early in the evening on friday night. After our site recce, we headed to Jonker Street for food! I was super excited about walking the night market and photographing it as I’ve never had the chance to. More on Jonker St in my next post =)

Jody & Kelly live in the UK. Jody is Chinese-Peranakan and Kelly is British. It was a traditional Peranakan Baba-Nyonya customary wedding in the day and western style at night. They followed closely to the customary ceremonies and both wore traditional wedding gowns embroidered with gold trimmings. The couple got ready at the Holiday Inn and made their way to Jody’s family house. The couple was greeted by two lion dancers as they arrived and Kelly had to walk in a certain way, swaying from left to right and gently pausing after each step. She was also not allowed to smile as in the olden days, it would seem as though the bride was too eager to marry into the family. They performed the sohjah, a Peranakan custom whereby the couple kneels three times to show respect to their elders. The sohjah was followed by the traditional Chinese tea ceremony and a lion dance performance. I was very excited about the lion dance performance as I’ve always liked watching them flutter their furry long eye lashes and moving in beat with the roaring drums…

This troop was amazing! The second lion, the pink one, performed some pretty wicked stunts, prancing from pole to pole and in a few instances, “flying” from one end to another! They also walked on rope! It was certainly very impressive!

Kelly’s shoes for the dinner reception…

Some portrait shots…

The dinner reception was held at the Holiday Inn…

There were some technical problems with the spot light and the music but it made a romantic mood shot!

Halfway through the dinner, people started to dance and the party took off from there!

This tying-your-tie-on-your-head-rambo-style is a thing among Jody and his friends since college days in UK. Soon enough, everyone had that style going! Even Jody’s dad and uncle!!!

The party REALLY took off when one of his friends went up on stage to sing “Summer of 69″. This is Jody’s song – as the song goes… “Jimmy quit and Jody got married!”. Check out Jody’s ROCKSTAR uncle in the foreground!

Everyone was so spontaneous and sporting, we were having so much fun covering the party, watching everyone dance the night away! It was definitely one of my best wedding parties I’ve ever shot!

Congrats to Jody & Kelly and thank you so much for having us! We had loads of fun! Happy Honeymooning in Bali!

Last Friday was the official opening ceremony of Baxter at their new office space at Mid Valley. We have covered numerous Baxter events in the past but this was the first time I was photographing the event it myself. It was certainly nice to finally meet all the folks at Baxter whom I had only met through photos!

They had 3 caricature artists and a calligrapher. The caricatures were excellent and pretty amazing!

This is my favorite caricature! The artist really portrayed his features well!

Match the faces below!

After the shoot, I went home to do some last minute packing before Steve & I headed to Melaka…

RT+Q

12.10.2008

RT+Q is an architectural firm based in Singapore. I had the privilege to photograph one of their housing projects in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday. This house took 4 years to build and is modern, and I mean MODERN! Their flair for modern design is unmistakable with the use of lines and shapes to form streamlined constructs.

Every corner of the house is carefully designed and looks like a piece of art at any angle you view it from. My favorite parts of the house are the living room and the pool. The living area is enclosed by two very tall glass sliding doors that are about 20ft high, one on each side of the room. These large glass doors slide open and the living is transformed to an open space! The lap pool is made completely out of Italian Bisazza mosaic, my favorite type of tiles to work with but also very expensive! (I have them in both my bathrooms in my apartment but I could only afford one wall each!)

I am in the midst of editing the photos but here’s a sneak preview! More photos to come soon!

Finally got back to KL this evening after a short visit to Hong Kong and spending the weekend in Singapore, visiting Allen’s sister, Winnie. It feels good to be back home but it’s going to be full steam ahead all the way through 2009!

Here’s a preview of my little “adventure” to Lantao island with my very old high school friend from S’pore, Yilin.

Will post more photos and write about it sometime this week!
