2008 November | FIFOTO Blog

Sunday – the day of rest. And this is the first Sunday in a long time I got to thoroughly enjoy the day. Had dim sum with Nikko and Mandy and then headed to the spa for the long awaited and MUCH NEEDED massage! This is the first time I tried Shiatsu and the masseur managed to loosen up my knots. I’m feeling relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to take on the upcoming week ahead! I also tried to promise myself (I was obviously kidding myself!) not to touch my laptop today but of course, that didn’t happen!

Here’s a preview of Vivien & Chew’s wedding from last weekend!

Sharon & Ben

30.11.2008

As I submitted my marketing paper last Wednesday, a heavy load was lifted off my chest. Now, I can finally concentrate on work and go full steam (as if I haven’t already gone full steam! In fact, I’m outta steam!)

Kris from That Special Occasion had recommended me to Sharon & Ben purely on the basis of how I spoke – with an accent, apparently! But Kris was right – we got along from our very first meeting at the studio, maybe because of our similar backgrounds as we all went to college in the US!

Sharon and Ben are one of the most chilled out couples I’ve ever met! They threw a private party for the close friends at Vintry and the actual wedding was the next day. Both events were celebrated in a very intimate style – close friends and close relatives. David had a good time joking around with Ben all day and Ben definitely appreciated that David got his sense of humor!

And here’s another freaky story of FIFOTO weather! David and I did our usual recce a few days before and we had scouted out the park nearby where we could do some portrait shots after the tea ceremony. Of course, this would be at about 12-1pm and Sharon was worried about the sun and harsh lighting. As usual, I confidently reassured her not to worry and that the sun will hide behind the clouds when we’re out to shoot. Amazingly enough, it got cloudy as we headed to the park. It got so cloudy that their friend mentioned it might rain! “Shhhhhhhhhh! It won’t rain! Don’t talk about it!”, I said. The weather was perfect – cloudy skies that held up till we finished out shoot! It started raining as we drove home…

Once again Freedom organized another rave to follow up the other 3 parties from the Freedom Series. Upon getting the news that I would be shooting it and knowing there will be 4 of us photographers there that night, I knew it will be vastly different from the Freedom Events at Red Cap Square and Momo which i shot recently.

On reaching the location it became instantly clear the scale of the rave that Freedom has organized. In the last 2 events they brought a tiny megaphone and this time they brought one that is maybe 20 times the size for the scream your way to an IPOD stand. Besides that the photo wall was slightly different as it provided some added excitement when people emerged mysteriously from the back of the wall.

When things started to pick up boy it was busy! There was a line at the photo booth of eager people waiting their turn to take pictures. I was clicking away non stop from 9pm till about 2am and the amount of people didn’t seem to dwindle.

Everyone was enjoying themselves to the free flow of alcoholic drinks and some enjoyed it too much as the crowd became a little rowdy after 1am and there were people lying on the floor passed out everywhere.

All in all it was a really tiring shoot but super fun to see the freaked out faces of people when the “people” emerged from the wall.

Emilia and I have been wanting to start a mini project like this but of course, with work and school, it took me a year before I finally got my act together and planned for the shoot. I immediately thought of my friend, Jeff’s house when it came to finding a location. It was just perfect for the photo shoot! As for finding a model, it was easy! I had shot Jocelyn & Jinh’s wedding earlier this year and she had the perfect bone structure, height and body! Best of all, this girl’s quirky sense of humor (I say this with fond memories of her cracking dirty jokes) makes it such a breeze to work with!

Special thanks to Joycelyn for strutting her stuff, Jeff for the use of his beautiful home, Emilia for the artistic makeup and hairstyling, Steve and Kit for assisting in the photo shoot!

I seriously need a name for this project… any suggestions? Pls send me your ideas!

Am also open to concept ideas for our next shoot (which will be next year)… would like to hear from you!
