2008 November | FIFOTO Blog - Part 3

This past weekend was a very special one – three of my close friends got married! And the best news is… I attended 2 of them as guest!

My very good and old friends, Calvin & Eileen, got married last weekend. Saturday morning started off with the Church wedding followed by a dinner reception Sunday evening. Steve & David covered their wedding so it was nice for a change to just sit back and relax and watch them do their thing! (Click here for the sneak peek Steve posted!)

Here’s the candid group shot…

Sunday, the reception at Sunway Resort

The lovely couple!

I love weddings with a dance floor! (Not just to dance on but to photograph as well!)

Calvin’s parents…

After all the guests had left, we all got a little more rowdy and tried to get Calvin drunk!

These are the guys I used to hang out with when I was 16!

Everyone tried to get the photographers drunk too! Little did they know that Steve is happy as long as he’s fed beer.. (Hmmm… reminds me of Kobe beef)

Look at David in the background, going for the cans of beer!

Steve, you look like you’ve lost weight! Looking good there!

The two boys drinking on-the-job… well worth it after two hard and long days of work…

Special thanks to Joh Sen for this rare shot!

Back to Saturday – My client-turned-friends, Joyce & Gaven had a beautiful ceremony by the Renaissance Hotel pool side where they exchanged vows. The evening followed by dinner accompanied with 7 speeches, yes, 7 very good and emotional speeches that made me cry!

Click here to check out their pre-wedding photos!

Grant and Hock Seng were the official photographers for the wedding…

Of course, Allen and I didn’t attend the wedding completely without camera gear! We brought our mini Canon Ixus 860IS and managed to take some fun shots for a change!

The lovely bride…

Allen’s new found buddies in Hong Kong – the entire group of boys flew in just for the weekend!

The gorgeous couple…

The weddings galore continued onto Monday to my good friends, Bruce & Hsuan‘s wedding but this time I was behind the camera and it felt good! (Professional photos will be posted soon!)

Allen was there as guest a.k.a unofficial photographer for the dinner reception at Oriental Pavilion. Thanks for the photos babe!

Hsuan and Bruce reserved seats for us at the “Penang” table. It was nice to hang out a little with my Penang friends – it’s been awhile since I’ve been back! (I’m currently back in Penang which is nice! Will be eating my favorite Sister’s Char Koay Teow tomorrow morning, and the day after, and for the rest of the week till I leave this Saturday!)

Our Think Tank ad…

It’s really nice to have Al around to document our shoots =) Thanks babe!

David and I shot Calvin & Eileen’s wedding which spanned over the weekend. All I can say is, it was one helluva wedding!! Very ‘interesting’ games, very emotional church ceremony, Micheal Buble-esque performance, Stormtroopers from Star Wars, a performance from a ukulele wielding youtube sensation, a scene from the movie Dirty Dancing and an appearance by Elvis!! It was not just a wedding…..it was pure entertainment!!

Anyways, congratulations Calvin & Eileen, it was reaaaaaaly fun being part of your wedding!!

Here’s a sneak peek from the thousands of photos we took over the weekend.

I’ve known Bruce and Hsuan since 2002, since I started work (real work, not photography) in KL. They are the cutest couple ever! They both have an exceptionally funny sense of humor and kept us entertained the entire trip!

Rawa is a special island for these two and there’s loads of history behind it. Two years ago, Bruce had arranged all their friends to be on the island when he proposed to Hsuan. They have been back every year since then to celebrate their anniversary!

There’s nothing not to like about Rawa, an island off the coast of Mersing (near Johor). The waters are crystal clear and the beach is covered with fine white sand. The skies were blue with fluffy white clouds, perfect for our shoot! However, the sunsets weren’t spectacular as we had hoped! (Apparently it drizzled the day we left the island without FIFOTO charm! Hehehe) We stayed at the Rawa Safari Resort where its blue water slide off the jetty has become an icon of the island (and Steve’s highlight of the trip!). The rooms are clean and decent and their buffet spreads are yummy!

Steve and I had a mini work-vacation on the island. We pretty much chilled by the beach all day in between our photo sessions. Basically, we chilled out most of the time!

Day 2, we woke up early and hiked up to the peak of the island where we had a 180-degree view of the entire island. It was magnificent but very hot so we kept it short! Plus, me getting bitten by red ants wasn’t a pleasant feeling! (Yes, I had to rough it a little making my way up there which was especially difficult in my havaianas!) The rest of Day 2 was spent by the beach, relaxing and for me, sun tanning. We started our shoot again later in the evening where the caves were on the other end of the beach.

Many thanks to Bruce and Hsuan for the fantastic getaway! We totally enjoyed ourselves photographing on the breathtaking island!

Gilbert (the name Bruce gave the dog) liked me – he kept licking me and my camera as I was shooting! Steve had to be my body guard! He was cute though!

Up on the peak… (Bruce is drenched! Look closely!)

They are sooooooo candid and cute! Cracked me up!

This is my favorite…

Doesn’t it feel so surreal!

Hsuan looking radiant and beautiful as always!

The after-effects of too much sun!

or…

maybe it’s just Bruce being himself!

A “primary school” shot of everyone before the end of shoot!

[Behind the Scenes]

Me venturing into videography… hahaha!

Steve venturing into the deeper end! Don’t get your camera wet!

[JUST FOR FUN]

Special thanks to Bruce & Hsuan for these photos!

A school of fish under the jetty…

No, we didn’t catch these… just borrowed for a photo!

Fishing is Bruce’s favorite pastime… so we all got into it too (for like 10 mins! hahaha)

Day 2

The slide was the highlight of Steve’s vacation! He went on it like 5 times in a row!

The water was crystal clear and there were all kinds of fish swimming around us! I was feeding them bread…

We were bored sop we decided to take some photos!

After dinner, we played some pool where I won the first two games with Steve & Hsuan and almost beat Bruce (I potted the black and the white ball followed! Sigh…)

Steve and I had to leave the next day… we didn’t want to go but I had work and was flying off the next day…

Melissa & Tat Soon

5.11.2008

Melissa & Tat Soon was recommended to me by Jenny Sun who shot their registration of marriage in Sydney. Their wedding started early – I woke up at 4:30am and reached Melissa’s place in Kajang by 6:15am. Her place had a lovely pool which we managed to get a few portrait shots before we let for Sheraton Imperial in KL. The tea ceremony for both sides were held at the hotel and it was pretty late by the time we ended the day session. We had 2.5 hours to rush back to recharge our batteries and ourselves, and prepare for photos to be shown during the reception. The blessing ceremony started at 5pm which meant that we had to be back at the hotel by 4:30pm. It was a mad rush but we managed to get everything done in time (Thank Goodness!)
The dinner reception was pretty entertaining – there were numerous animations on how they met and a video of how Tat Soon proposed to Melissa – on a hot air balloon in Sydney! How romantic!
The reception ended late and David & I were dead tired – our feet were killing us after shooting for about 16 hours that day but it was a pleasure covering their special day and getting to know the couple a little better (I had only communicated with Melissa via email before this).

Congratulations to the sweet couple!

The blessing ceremony and dinner reception was held at Imperial Hotel, KL…
