Leanne & John

27.05.2010

And yet again, another long weekend has arrived! I’ll be back in Penang for the next two days and I’m stoked! I’ve planned every single meal, right to the very dishes I’m gonna eat! I’ve also requested for durians and rambutans for tea for Friday! It’s been a long time since I’ve been back and I’m craving for some Sister’s CKT, which I plan to have for breakfast both day I’m there! Sean’s new place, Sixty9ine Mansion by the beach has also recently opened and we’re gonna make waves (as we always do!) Friday night!

Leanne & John’s wedding was a perfect example of why I love doing what I do. It was a simple ceremony which unfortunately had to be moved indoors due to the wet grounds from the afternoon showers. Nevertheless, it was a short and sweet exchange of vows witnessed by their close friends and family. One thing I thought was very meaningful which I took away from the sermon was this: ” Marriage is not about finding the right person but being the right partner”. Soooooooo true! In our fairytale dreams, we always wish for price charming to come and sweep us off our feet…. that tall, dark & handsome prince you marry and live happily ever after. At my age, you’ll know life and love don’t come easy. Nobody’s perfect, not even you yourself. And if you’re out there looking for that perfect someone, you’ll probably never marry or be really disappointed.

After posting this comment up on Facebook, I had a few responses and improvisations to the above statement. Daniel said, “It’s about being the right partner to the right person”, which I think makes complete sense and I can testify from my own experiences. It’s hard to change but you will do it for the right person. So as Tina says, it’s also about finding that right person to trigger that change in you.

Back to Leanne and John’s wedding … Nothing could have been more perfect! It was an intimate party of 12 tables ( if you’re a photographer or have been to enough weddings, you’ll know small parties are wayyyyyyy more fun! ), there was some funky entertainment from an energetic and dare I say, over-enthusiastic couple (In a Good way, of coz) and best of all, a lotta crazy dancing on the dancefloor! And I can safely say, Jason and I both had so much fun photographing everyone there!

Congrats to the lovely couple & Happy Wesak Day everyone!

MUSA by Steve

MUSA, the latest newcomer in the fashion scene of KL arrived recently and did they know how to make an entrance!

For one, they brought in the English designer, Henry Holland of ‘House of Holland’, famous for his 80′s inspired t-shirts to showcase his designs. They also had the uber fabulous fashion blogger, Bryanboy with his absolutely funky pants to make an appearance too!
The night before the launch of MUSA’s boutique, they organized an intimate dinner at the Mandarin Oriental with the movers and shakers of the KL fashion scene. Just to let them know that MUSA have arrived. It was a small intimate do, casual chit chatting and getting to know who and what MUSA is all about. Each guest at the dinner received their very own personalized moleskins complete with their names embossed on it! Really pretty!
Then it was the opening of MUSA at Avenue K. We had 3 of us covering the event, Fiona covered the backstage preparations and the catwalk, Jason was the roaming photographer who’s duty was to capture photos of the beautiful people there and me, at the very pink photo wall, capturing guests who were all dressed up to the nines. It was such a grand affair.
And after all has been done with, MUSA hosted an after party at Quattro’s Winter lounge. This was where everyone just let their hair down and party like it’s 1999….. even though it’s 2010….. lame joke.
All the MUSA events were fun to cover, beautiful people, beautiful venues….who’s to complain.
Welcome MUSA!!

Beaubelle

13.05.2010

Unlike last week, this week has been especially good to me! My Monday started out great – I received 2 enquiries for commercial work, one of which has been confirmed and the other, fingers crossed I’ll get the job too! To add to the good day, Peter invited to be a platform speaker at their upcoming WPPM conference in August! And yesterday, my client finally approved the Lotus flower I had been working on (and sweating balls) the past two weeks! So yes, it’s been a great week for me and I hope it’s been a good one for you too!

Here’s what I’ve been working on for Beaubelle. With new blood in the company, they are currently undergoing a rebranding exercise for a cleaner & fresher brand image. If you follow me on Twitter on on Facebook, you would have known how much time I had spent on the lotus, the main brand identity shot. The problem was finally resolved by individually photographing each lotus part and carefully putting piece by piece together in Photoshop. After countless variations and adjustments, I finally managed to get the show below (You won’t miss it, it’s a gigantic flower!)

We learn things everyday and this assignment has taught me a few valuable things:

1. Always persevere, never give up, even if you feel like you’re gonna.

2. Nothing in commercial ads are real nor perfect, thanks to Photoshop.

3. After getting the full image, always re-take your subject in individual parts, just in case you need to DI a part in later on.

4. Layer masks, warping and blending.

My weekend kinda starts today so ……. HAVE A FANTABULOUS WEEKEND!

… and drum roll pls… for the famous Lotus!
