There’s been a lotta changes in the past year. A lotta moving, a lotta opening up of spaces. Most shops have expanded into bigger lots and some have disappeared. Yes, KLCC is my 2nd home and I know both the mall area and the basement parking equally well, like the way I know the back of my hand. In fact, better.

I’ve said this many times before too. I love my job as it gives me the opportunity to keep me in the know. Last week, I shot at Piaget, coincidentally, one of my favorite watch brands as well. They had moved from a small corner unit to a much bigger space. The interior is kept very straightforward and simple. Furniture is kept to a bare minimum while the walls are put to the best use of space, clad with sparkly diamond watches, shining right back at ya!

Of course, being such a high end brand, and the fact that it was 10am, there was hardly any traffic which made my job easy! I got in, shot and got out within an hour! (No, it was not a robbery!)

Oroton – Location Shoot

KLCC is revamping. Big time. They are moving around a lot of stores, and have opened up an entirely new section where the new, prominent Chanel store now stands. With this new wave comes an exciting Australian brand and first store in Malaysia, Oroton. If you’ve lived in Australia, you’d be familiar with the brand. Else, like me, I was curious to see what Oroton had to offer! My initial impression was … WOW! Cladded in heavy gold borders at the store front, there’s no way you’d miss the store. Inside, you’d find a wide variety of ladies’ and men’s leather bags and accessories. What I found most interesting were the detailed finishings that completed the look and feel of the place, from gold framed shelves to hexagonal bag stands!

Their bags range from everyday casual ones to glittery party purses. There’s also a small section for ladies’ knitwear. For men, you’ll find the basics – briefcases, wallets, belts and money clips. If you’re in town, check out Oroton at KLCC. There’s also a second, smaller outlet at the Gardens.

The New Dunhill @ KLCC

Out with the old and in with the new! If you’ve been to the old Dunhill store at KLCC, you’d know how tiny and cramped the space was. So when I found out that they had renovated and expanded into what was previously Franc Muller lot, I was stoked! Well, I don’t exactly shop at Dunhil but am just glad they are out of that little space!

The new Dunhil store is spacious and cozy, with a sofa area for the better halves to sit and relax their feet, or browse through some books on the brand’s history. It’s got a corner for leather bags, briefcases and the latest mens fashion trend, man-bags.(ahem, you know who you are!)

So check out the new Dunhill store if you’re at KLCC!

Wine & Dine at Markethall & Bedroom

Adding to Chaswood’s already impressive portfolio of F&B outlets are newly opened Markethall and Bedroom at the Pavilion. Located on the 6th floor, the two outlets are adjoining with two separate entrances.

Markethall looks and feels exactly as it sounds, but think of it as the posh, upmarket, high-end kind of market you find in Australia. Markethall is spacious. In one corner you can imported foodstuff and condiments. In another, is a semi open concept kitchen with one area dedicated to fresh greens and fresh seafood. The decor is slightly rustic. I love the raw wooden benches, netted grills and paint buckets that hang over the dining tables. (thankfully they arent filled with real paint!)

If you are curious and explore past the end of Markethall, you’ll find a small opening to a cozy private dining and wine area fit for 10-12 pax. On the other side is Bedroom, a lush bar/lounge beautifully decorated with Persian rug designed prints placed in classical Europena-styled wooden frames, hanging above you on the ceiling! And to keep with the bedroom theme, you have an entire rack of fluffy white pillows to lie on, lull in and fight with at your expense!

I ended up having a fee drinks at Bedroom in between my daytime and evening shoot! It’s a pretty cool place for after hours drinks! So check out Markethall and Bedroom if you’re in the Bukit Bintang area and if you’re hosting a private dinner party, the Wineroom would be perfect!

I take off to the US tomorrow and am looking forward to my 2-week vacay, my good friend Rita’s wedding, catching up with all Ma’ Girlies and mostly likely return with a new art addition on me! (and not forgetting a few iPad 2′s !)

Brotzeit

I would be lying if I said I didn’t salivate when the dishes stared back at me as I looked through my viewfinder behind the lens. Yes, the food at Brotzeit looked delicious and if they weren’t mostly pork dishes, I’d say they probably tasted yummy too. Of course, I had to for-go trying what looked so yummy coz well for one, they were mostly pork (if you don’t know by now, no, I don’t eat pork and no, I’m no Muslim if you’re wondering!). Two, both mine, Jason’s and the Chef’s fingers were all over the dishes already so if you had seen us work the plates, I doubt you would have wanted some either! But, my job as a photographer isn’t to ensure the food tastes good, but to ensure it LOOKS good and that my photos create a physical slobbery reaction in your mouths! And I hope I managed to do so in these food shots for Brotzeit, a new German beer bar & restaurant at Mid Valley! Do drop by if you’re around the area! They have a great selection of premium beers and the food certainly looks delicious!

Ajmal Perfumes – Location

Today is an exceptionally good day. With two big things brewing, work wise, I’m thrilled and all fired up to take the world by storm! (Ok, I’ve been watching too many movies!). It’s gonna be a very busy 2nd half of the year but I’m ready to take up the challenge and push myself the extra mile, or two, or three! And thanks to the moral support of Ming (who by the way, turned 1 year older last Saturday! Happy Birthday!!!), the FIFOTO team and my friends, it’s gonna be a GOOOOOOOOOOOD year! I can’t let the cat outta the bag as of now but it’s COMING SOON this 2010 (to a theater near you! Ok I really gotta stop this!)

Here’s a shoot I did last week for Ajmal perfumes, a new store at Pavilion. This luxury perfume brand caters to both the western and middle-eastern markets and what’s most interesting I found about the store was a lab setup for creating your own scents! Do check them out at Pavilion! I also had the pleasure of meeting, Ajmal the man himself during the shoot!

Primeclass Landscaping

There’s something about SF coffee, especially the one in KLCC. Good coffee and good food aside, the place is simply magical. Ok, I might be exxagerating but there is certainly something special about that place. Perhaps it’s the familiar faces that make the place warm and cozy. Yesterday, I saw four tables of people I know! First was Gale, general manager at Prada. I sat right behind her and we started chatting for a bit (she’s quitting Prada, boohooo!). Then, there’s this elderly lady from my yoga class, waiting patiently for her better half to arrive. I see her there at times with her husband who probably works nearby. Looking to my left, I noticed a fee familiar faces from Help Desk @ Exxon. And when I was about to leave, I bumped into another group of my ex-colleagues/friends from Exxon.

Gale mentioned she goes to SF coffee for some solitude, which I agree with her completely! And perhaps it’s the friendly people behind the counter who starts making my ice latte even before I can start ordering it, and knowing how I want my sandwich done and wrapped. I think that’s part and parcel of the “magic” that happens at SF coffee. (I swear I don’t have a share in the company!! It’s pure love for the food and ice latte!!)

Friday couldn’t come soon enough. It has been a hectic but productive week and I’m glad I’m easing myself into workaholic mode. With only two more items on my TO DO list for the rest of the week, I’m looking forward to a chilled out weekend of no traveling nor crazy party plans and am super excited to kick start our FIFOTO 101 class this Sunday!

Here’s a project I took on a month back with Primeclass Landscaping for their portfolio. Inspired by their impressive portfolio of landscape and design, I was busy exploring a number of places in Cyberjaya and Mines Resort. Their extensive portfolio consisted of mostly commercial work such as Cyberview Lodge and Prima Avenue but also included some really interesting residential units. From the places I’ve visited and photographed, their signature style seems to be the patterned concrete walkways embedded in grass. My favorite of them all is their innovative and eco-friendly Vertical green walls where plants grow on a stainless steel planting modules, complete with an irrigation system! Different plants are grown on these modules to create patterns and not only are these walls used for aesthetic purposes, they are also environmentally friendly, providing insulation against heat and noise pollution! I would sooooooo love to have one of these green walls!

It has really been a while since I last updated a blog entry here as well as shoot. Mainly due to the fact I was away for a good half of 2009. Certainly does feels really good to be back! While the rest of the FIFOTO crew was out on their annual trip (I had to stay behind due to other commitments), I covered the Zinc location shoot.

Nice, big place with a sense of artistry I can’t quite explain. While shooting the space, I felt that there wasn’t a single angle that would make the space less than what it is..a work of art. Even the bright piece in front of the space makes a bold statement!

FIFOTO 101 – The EGG

October was supposed to be a relatively quiet month, with event shoots and FIFOTO 101 classes every weekend. I was looking forward to catching up on all my TV series but it has turned out to be shoot frenzy! The team and I have been shooting almost every other day this month and apart from my Nike-inspired jogs in the park, I haven’t had any time to myself and honestly, I’m starting to miss my alone nights with Hank! Having said that, I’m totally happy immersing myself with work coz that means more shopping money for my upcoming Melbourne trip! =)

Last Sunday’s class was on LIGHT. We talked about soft vs hard light and its different characteristics. We talked about the different light sources and how we can manipulate them. We also had a practical session within the studio and everyone got to play with various lights and color gels!

The objective of this assignment was for students to demonstrate their understanding of light, its characteristics and how to use it creatively. If you thought last week’s assignment photos were good, you are going to be blown away by this set! Needless to say, I was blown away by each and every submission I received throughout the week. I am in AWE!!! Amazed by their lighting technique, mesmerized by their creativity! I feel inspired by their photos and now I understand the joy of teaching!!!

CK Accessories & Mulberry @ KLCC

It was Dejavu for me as I flew back from HK to make it back in time for Club 21′s newly refurbished location shoot at KLCC.

After a good early breakfast at San Francisco Coffee, my favorite place for sandwiches and coffee (too bad they don’t have one at the Pavilion so I have to make do with Coffee Bean’s salad or Subway’s sandwiches!), I headed to CK Accessories. It is one third the size of the clothing store and I was done in like 20 minutes! Right next door, is Mulberry and the store is tastefully fitted with a light wood finish and warm lighting. Of course, it was mainly the bags that stood out and I was eyeing a few! Didn’t dare look at the prices after 2 weeks of shopping in the US and returning from HK! Besides, the sales in HK really do make it worth the trip there! My friend had bought a funky Mulberry clutch at 70% off!!!
