    “THE PROPOSAL STORY”

It was our belated 4th anniversary and he suggested to bring me to Rasa Sentosa Resort(by Shangrila) to celebrate our day!

We were exploring Sentosa the whole day until the end of the Songs of The Sea Show, here our stories come.

He brings me to the Siloso Beach before heading back to our hotel. We were chit-chatting about our life, marriage, futures, families, baby while enjoying our wonderful stary night under the twinkle stars light. Suddenly he asked me to turn back and close my eyes while he’s trying to draw me lovely words on the sand as what he did on my 2007 birthday celebration at Angsana Bintan.

A few minutes later, he asked me to turn back. I saw him knee down with a ring on his hand and he had draw a big love shape on the sand where I was standing in the shape by written -> ‘WILL U MARRY ME’

Witness by the soft full moon, calm sea, cooling sea breeze, twinkle stars, tall yet shy coconut trees and the sand of the beach, I nod my head by saying YES to him *touch*

While we backed to our hotel room, he covered my eyes before entering the room. When I opened my eyes, I saw the bed cover covered where something hide underneath. I pulled away the bed cover and I found many colorful balloons on the bed! And a 1000 jigsaw puzzles! The jigsaw puzzles was a picture of Mickey & Minnie sitting along Santorini, Oia enjoying their wine! This will be the scene where we going to see in Greece for our honeymoon in 2009! He has spent 3 days stayed up all night to finish the 1000 puzzles. Again, my tears flow uncontrollable.. I was very touch, words will never able to explain my feelings.

I was so touch with tears of joy. I was too happy to see all these surprises arranged by him. This will be our most unforgettable moment in our life…

This is the day of our promise to undertake in our life.

    The proposal story~
    “Surprise! Surprise?”

“Tick…tick…tick…” the clock was playing in the background for the most important moment of my life. Trust me, my heart was beating at least twice as fast as the clock when time was approaching 7:30 pm. ‘There she is!’ Hun Yee walked into the restaurant with her girl pal, Zoe. Everything happened in a Victorian designed restaurant that is looking at KLCC with a cozy and romantic ambience. These bubbly girls were lead to a couch at the waiting area, and Hun Yee was left alone as Zoe disappeared to the restroom. Obviously, it was just a trick…

Jerry, Shann and I were hiding and peeping behind the pillar, without knowing what was happening outside, all of us became even more nervous and agitated. After confirming that Hun Yee was left alone admiring the menu, I thought “THIS IS IT!” My lungs were inflated by a long deep breath and I walked directly to the baby grand piano seated at the heart of the restaurant.

After taking a deep breath to calm myself, I started to work with my fingers on the piano. Though I had taken a few years of piano lessons when I was little, I needed approximately 20 hours of practice by renting a piano room near my place. Renting a piano room in Singapore is not easy, and it was even tougher to start practicing a song from a few notes, to a few lines of scores, till I managed to memorise the entire song without the score. Fortunately, selection of song is very obvious, as this is one of our songs that we both love – “Tonight, I celebrate my love”.

The song was played smoothly at the start due to the adrenaline rush. I was waiting for the expected reaction from my girlfriend but none came. Curious, I turned my head to look at her on the couch since my back was to hers. To my surprise, there was NO reaction from her at all. She MUST be very hungry…all her concentration was given to the boring menu! I started to slow down, hoping that she will notice the change and be curious of who the pianist was. I began to feel distress, because things were not happening as planned, despite so much effort has been put in.

Left with no choice and starting to panic, I had no choice but to turn to Jerry and Shann who were the photographer and videographer of the night. Both my buddies did not help me out and remained at where they were, and I realised that I was on my own for this. After the adrenaline effect has weaned off, my fingers finally failed me by playing a number of wrong notes, and I could not continue anymore. Without hesitation, I quickly requested the manager to hint my girlfriend to have more interest in the pianist of the night.

With reluctance, Hun Yee popped her head out of the couch and she was so shocked to realise that I was the one playing her favourite song. She walked towards me and encouraged me to continue playing, while she quietly sat by my side. The tune went on with all my love, while Hun Yee was holding tightly on my right arm and her head leaning onto my shoulder. THIS was what I had been dreaming of, to play a meaningful sentimental song for my soul mate at the proposal. The song ended with a string of soft notes, followed by a bouquet of her favourite flower, purple roses. She finally saw the cameras focusing on us and felt shy and embarrassed. I held her left hand, and told her with utmost sincerity that ‘I am not a perfect person, but I will be a complete person if you are right there beside me’. Then, down on one knee, I took out the engagement ring and asked “Will you marry me?” With tears in her eyes, she nodded with a smile. I swiftly and gently place the ring onto her finger, and held her close to myself, close to my heart.

    ‘A Meaningful Beginning’

Let us share with you about the most amazing part of our lives and definitely not the last one.
    This is just the beginning…

A week prior to the proposal, he suggested that we should treat ourselves to a scrumptious and lavish dinner.
I didn’t quite believe him because we couldn’t meet the expense of such luxurious treats. He told me that he had a voucher and would love to treat me. Anyway, I just laughed it off and I thought he was just pulling my legs.

On that historical evening, he reminded me again that the dinner is on and he’ll be picking me up at 7. This time, he said it with earnestness in his face. When I went downstairs, he was already there, patiently waiting and gave me his usual cheeky smile. Then, he came up to me and asked, “Are you ready?” and I grinned back and him and said, “Yeah!”.

So, there we were, standing in front of an Italian Restaurant, Olio in Renaissance Hotel, Melaka. It was such a stunning place –simply enticing and romantic. We were approached by a man in his suit, introducing himself as Mr. Oh, the Manager of the restaurant. He gave a strong handshake and welcomed us. He was expecting us! My jaw just dropped at that moment because he actually made reservations for the dinner. He laughed at my expression and guided me to our table. I had so many questions popping into my head but he seems contented and calm.

Ok, before I go on, let me elucidate about my obsession to Harry Porter stories and I had one in my bag! The page number is still clear in my mind. I was at page 139, Part 1. So, unromantic of me!

The dinner went on pretty well. We had our appetizers, main course and desserts. When we were concluding our dessert, he excused himself to the gents. So, while waiting, I sneaked the book that I was dying to finish up and started reading it.

As he was heading back to our table, I quickly get a final peek and tossed it back into my bag. While I was ‘busy’ tossing, I heard him calling me. When I turned, I was surprised to see there were 5 people were standing in front of me; the manager, his crew and my lovely husband to be. I had no clue of what was happening. My face was pale white! I could feel my hands were cold and my blood were running dry.

He came up to me, took out a ring and knelt in front of me. I could hardly breathe now! A huge bouquet of red roses was handed to him. I could feel all the anxiety and excitement surrounding us. All I could do is just sitting there staring at him. My bones were as soft as the rose petals. Everyone in the room was quiet and listening attentively to what is going to happen next. He came near me and whispered, “Will you marry me, sayang?” I was even more speechless. This time, my mind was totally blank! I looked around for clues. I couldn’t find my words. My tongue was tied. There was a second of silence.

There two words that popped into my mind was – “I do” and “Yes”. Which was the right word? I couldn’t decide! At that moment, when I looked at him, I realized I didn’t have the word “No” in my train of thoughts. He was the one. The one I would love to spend the rest of my life with. I knew it! Then, I gazed at him and said, “Yes”.

He gave the biggest smile of relieve and handed me the bouquet of roses. We smooched and started laughing because we were so shyAll the crews were clapping their hands and cheered. Everyone who was dining in that restaurant was clapping and cheering too!

I took his hands and helped him back to his seat. ! I could feel that his hands were cold! Both of us sat there for the next 5 minutes laughing at what had just happened. He even forgot to put on the ring for me! We were served with some champagne and there were so many congratulatory messages from the manager, crews and diners who sat nearby us.

After a while, we took a slow stroll back to the car. He started telling me about how he got the whole thing organized; he bought 100 roses from the whole seller, took off the thorns and wrapped them himself with the help of his friend. He also got my best friend to help him with the reservation and delivery of flowers to the hotel.

I thanked him for all of his lovely efforts and most of all, for being so sweet. The best part of this event was that we didn’t have any photographs taken. It was captured in our memory. He sent me home after that and I sent him a text messages thanking him for having such a beautiful time of my life.

    ~SYNOPSIS~

Sunshine, I have always loved Christmas, and by choosing to propose on Christmas, you have given me the most magical Christmas ever. I have asked you numerous times to be my Santa on Christmas day and by giving me so many surprises, you are the best Santa ever. I know I forgot to say “YES” when you asked me to marry you but it seems like you somehow knew in advance and brought me to watch YES MAN. And, “YES Sunshine, I will marry you!”

    ~THE PROPOSAL STORY – “MAGICAL CHRISTMAS”~

    The Eve of Christmas Eve
The boyfriend reconfirmed that he will be dating me on Christmas Day and we will have dinner at his house with his parents. (Well, not exactly romantic but yes turkey is something to look forward to.)

Christmas Morning – The day HE said “YES”
The then boyfriend refused to reveal his PLAN but had me all dolled up in a dress and sexy heels. (My guess was that he will bring me to some orchestra or maybe even Mamma Mia! Boy, I was so WRONG!) We drove towards town and by 10.30 a.m. we were at the lobby of KL Tower. Since we were a tad too early for the Christmas buffet lunch, we sat through the boring commentary on how KL Tower was built. Before taking the elevator to the Revolving Restaurant I casually asked the boyfriend the reason behind dressing up. After all we were there just for buffet lunch. He wittily made up some stories about some silly regulations imposed by the restaurant.

We were shown to table no. 23 (His name Yee San) before he excused himself to the restroom. The first surprise came shortly after that – in the form of a HUGE RED ENVELOPE. And it reads “FOR THE ONE I LOVE – Sometimes, life hands you something so perfect, it’s hard to believe it could really be true…” It was decorated with lovely photos of us. (I did not expect such a thoughtful Christmas gift and my Christmas gift for him – ‘MELTY KISSES chocolates’ felt like NOTHING in comparison).

We had a great time eating while enjoying the magnificent view of KL. Since it was Christmas, Santa Claus and Santarina made their rounds and gave out candies to the kids. After they were done with the kids, they reappeared. Only, this time with two dish trays in hand. One for the boyfriend, one for me. I looked at him, he looked at me. We both looked at Santa and Santarina. Santa opened his dish tray but it was empty. Santarina opened mine and right in the middle stood a square purple box. He asked me to check out the box and so I clumsily opened the empty box! Again, I looked at him and he looked at me. I blushed furiously and hoped it wasn’t what I think it was. He then fished out the ring from his pockets and before I knew it, he was on his knees asking “Will You Marry Me?”

I had so much (yes uncountable) butterflies in my stomach. My stomach felt like they were in my throat. I was really surprised, nervous, shy, scared, and utterly speechless. I didn’t know how to react or what to say although I really wanted to say YES. I panicked and instead of saying YES, I smiled at him, gave him a peck on the lips and held out all of my ten fingers (Silly me! I really didn’t know why but it was the only logical thing I thought about doing at that moment or maybe it was just my very special way of saying YES indirectly). And so he slipped the ring onto my right forth finger. He was still on his knees and I knew I should have said YES but it struck me that I forgot to ask him the most important question! “Did you ask my parents?” I knew he couldn’t possibly have because my parents were away in US but his answer was a firm YES! (But how? When? Huh!?) “You really asked? When?” And again, he replied with a definite YES! (And so Christmas became the day he said YES!:))

Christmas Afternoon – The day he tried to influence me to say ‘YES’
We left the revolving restaurant beaming and gleaming like idiots. Our next stop was Cineleisure, The Curve – to watch YES Man. (Seems like he had a backup plan in place, just incase I didn’t say YES – He will first make me watch YES Man and then hypnotize me to say YES, just like in the movie! Hmpf, stupid boyfriend. :) ). I wasn’t expecting anymore surprises but as I entered the cinema, the next surprise came right before the start of the movie – in the form of a HUGE MONKEY SOFT TOY (now named MONKIE TAN) seated in the middle of the couple seats surrounded by drinks, snacks and chocolates. (No wonder he didn’t allow me to buy drinks prior to the movie! So cheeky and well planned! :) ) The movie was great with many innovative ways of convincing you to say YES! (Yes, I know I forgot to say YES! And it was indeed the perfect movie.) For the forth time that day, the boyfriend managed to surprise me yet again. This last surprise came right after the movie – in the form of a GREY BOX WITH BLUE RIBBON (containing a credit card) secretly tucked underneath the cinema seat. It was a really sweet gesture to signify his trust in me. I was really amazed with the amount of effort that the boyfriend put into planning all the surprises and the proposal.

    Christmas Dinner
Dinner was at his home with his parents. (Yes, turkey was on the menu! And No, there were no more surprises!)

“Last Christmas, I exchanged a box of MELTY KISSES chocolates with a HUGE RED CARD, a DIAMOND RING, a BOUQUET OF ROSES, MONKIE TAN, a GREY BOX WITH BLUE RIBBON and of course a FIANCE. This Christmas, I will be exchanging the FIANCE with a WEDDING BAND, a NEW TITLE (Mrs. Tan), a WEDDING RECEPTION, a LIFETIME COMMITMENT and of course a very SWEET & LOVING HUSBAND. Now, won’t you agree with me that Christmas is indeed very MAGICAL!”
